Julie has worked in strategic positioning
and target marketing to professionals and consumers for
more than 15 years. Her expertise spans a range of industries
and consumer groups, including the mature market, women,
patients, physicians, allied health professionals, investors,
and consumers.
She began her career as a professor
of English at Virginia's James Madison University.
From academia, Julie moved into advertising, with a copywriting
position at Foote, Cone & Belding in Los Angeles, where
she worked on diverse national accounts, including Mattel
Toys, Carnation Foods, and Denny's Restaurants. From there,
she combined her writing skills and working knowledge of
the medical field as an editor at Macmillan Healthcare Publishing,
also in Los Angeles. At Age Wave, Inc., Julie helped launch
multi-phase marketing platforms targeting mature consumers
in the automotive, financial, and insurance categories.
Moving from concept to consumer, her clients have included
Johnson & Johnson, Merck, Blue Cross, Aetna, PaineWebber,
and General Motors. Julie has also worked on naming, branding,
and positioning top-10 pharmaceutical and device entries
for national and global launch to physicians, patients,
and caretakers since 1996.
Julie is a PhD candidate who holds Bachelor's degrees in
English and Communication Arts, and a Master's degree in
English. She is a certificated college professor who continues
to teach part-time at Contra Costa College, where she developed
the college's first-ever Business Communications course.
She is the editor of two books on target marketing, Cycles:
How We Will Live, Work,
and Buy and AgePower:
Marketing in the New Millennium and the author of
more than 20 articles in consumer and trade publications.
